My Mirror Totoro

My husband bought me a little Totoro toy in NYC (which is why, among other reasons, I married him). I have a growing toy collection and considered adding him to the window sill where they all live. But then I had a better idea: why not alter him a little, so he can hang from my rear view mirror? (Totoro, that is, not my husband. :) )

This morning I did just that. I found some gray ribbon which I’ve saved for years, and some gray thread. After looping the ribbon, I sewed it to the back of the toy- first in a line up the middle of the ribbon, then with some criss-cross stitches to make it extra durable.

I love the way it came out. Can’t wait to share a picture of him hanging from my mirror!

Reunion

I did see West Virginia, and its winter, this weekend. We had a quick road trip to visit with family. While at my parent’s house, my mom pulled out a little toy chicken:

It was in a box of items that were mine, and that I had set aside to give away. But I rescued it (him? her?), and it road in my coat pocket all the way to North Carolina. The moveable mechanism in it is broken, so unfortunately it is frozen in a perpetual state of either eating, or (if propped up) sitting with its feet stretched out. A bit like myself, the past couple days…
